IAFIS
International Association of Food Industry Suppliers.
IDFA - International Dairy Foods Association
The International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), Washington, DC, represents the nation's dairy manufacturing and marketing industries and their suppliers, with a membership of 530 companies representing a $90-billion a year industry. IDFA is composed of three constituent organizations: Milk Industry Foundation (MIF), National Cheese Institute (NCI), and International Ice Cream Association (IICA). IDFA's 220 dairy processing members run more than 600 plant operations, and range from large multi-national organizations to single-plant companies. Together they represent more than 85% of the milk, cultured products, cheese and frozen desserts produced and marketed in the United States. IDFA can be found online at www.idfa.org.
IFT
The Institute of Food Technologists is a nonprofit scientific society with over 20,000 members working in food science, food technology, and related professions in industry, academia and government. IFT publishes various resources for the food industry, including the Food Technology Magazine. IFT also conducts the IFT Food Expo - an annual convention about processing, manufacturing, and formulation of nutraceuticals, food and food ingredients. As the authoritative voice of food science and technology, IFT contributes to public policy and opinion at national, state and local levels. IFT's Office of Science, Communications, and Government Relations advocates the scientific perspective on food science and technology issues.
Insoluble Solids
Incapable of being dissolved in a fluid; opposite of soluble.
Interconnector
This device connects two spiral elements together or an element to the permeate end cap.
Inulin
Inulin is a naturally occurring carbohydrate which can be extracted from chicory root. Inulin is a dietary fiber. Inulin is believed to activate beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract.
ISO - International Organization for Standardization
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is the world's largest developer of standards. Coordinated from a central office in Geneva, Switzerland, the ISO is a network of the national standards institutes from 157 countries.
ISPE
International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering. ISPE is the world's largest not-for-profit association dedicated to educating and advancing pharmaceutical manufacturing professionals and their industry.

Membrane filtration is a pressure driven process that uses a semi-permeable membrane to separate particulate matter from soluble components in the carrier fluid such as water or solvents.
