Nanotechnology
Nanotechnology is a branch of science that proposes the manipulation of single atoms.
Nano Filtration (NF)
A separation process using membranes where the pore size is so fine that only water and similar small molecules can pass through. Typically the process retains the proteins and sugars, but the water and dissolved salts will pass through. A pressure driven membrane process which rejects molecules with molecular weight > 300 Daltons.
Net driving pressure
The net driving pressure is the available (remaining) pressure to drive the feed water through the membrane not including the permeate and osmotic backpressure.
NFPA - National Fire Protection Association
The mission of the international nonprofit NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), established in 1896, is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education. The world's leading advocate of fire prevention and an authoritative source on public safety, NFPA develops, publishes, and disseminates more than 300 consensus codes and standards intended to minimize the possibility and effects of fire and other risks.
Niro
Niro was founded in Denmark in 1933 as Niro A/S by Danish engineer and inventor Johan Ernst Nyrop. Today Niro is the world leader in spray drying, fluid bed processing, and particulate processing systems.
Non Organic
Compounds void of carbon such as minerals.
Nutraceuticals
Foods with specific health or medical benefits - usually 100% natural in composition and process. Differentiate from supplements, which supplies missing nutrients. Examples include folic acid (to prevent birth defects) or pectin (to lower cholesterol) and fiber (to reduce the risk of color cancer). Sometimes spelled nutriceutical. The word is derived from two familiar terms: nutrition and pharmaceuticals. The result is a word that refers to dietary supplements and/or nutritional ingredients that promote optimal health. The word has come into common use in the last 10 years.
Nutrigenomics
Nutrigenomics is the study of the impact of certain foods on individuals of a specific genotype.
